About

Councilwoman Taiba Sultana represents Easton’s 3rd District in the Easton City Council, which includes South Side Easton.

An experienced organizer and social issues advocate, Councilwoman. Sultana was sworn into office in January 2021, making her the first immigrant to become a Member of Council, the first woman of color to represent Easton, and first Muslim-American woman elected to Council..

As a Council member, Councilwoman. Sultana is committed to fighting for the shared values of the City of Easton, values that put people at the center of our democracy. She plans to focus on tackling many of the issues that she hears about most from her constituents, like investing in affordable housing and community policing; ensuring a fair wage for a hard day's work; creating a just economic system and tackling the indiscrimination against Black and Brown communities.

Councilwoman. Sultana also plans to resist attempts to divide us and push destructive policies that chip away at our rights and freedoms—and to build a more inclusive and compassionate culture.

Born in Pakistan, Councilwoman. Sultana immigrated to the USA when she was a teen. In 2010, she found herself homeless after escaping an abusive relationship. She then lived in a shelter and later in public housing for three years. Her personal life experience shaped her to be an activist, a voice for the voiceless, and to get involved in politics. Before running for office, she worked as substitute educator in Phillipsburg School district, was a Civic Engagement Assistance in Northampton Community College and served as a member of Pennsylvania Board of Education.

Councilwoman. Sultana is the Chair of the Planning and Code Committee. She also serves on the Public Safety Committee.

She is a member of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission and Vice President of HOME, a newly created organization to promote affordable housing.
